/ Maaral – could suggest transformation or something that flows and changes gently

Velmaaral, also spelled Vel Maral, is a powerful devotional hymn and mantra dedicated to Lord Murugan, a prominent deity in Tamil Hindu tradition known as the god of war and victory. It is considered a maha mantra (great mantra) that is believed to swiftly grant divine blessings and resolve difficulties in devotees' lives when chanted regularly.

Velmaaral was compiled by Vallimalai Sri Sachidanandha Swamigal and is based on the Vel Vaguppu written by the saint Arunagirinaathar.

It consists of 64 stanzas, each rich in spiritual meaning and praise of Lord Murugan.

The mantra praises Murugan’s divine spear (Vel) and his peacock mount, symbolizing strength and wisdom. It invokes Murugan’s grace to remove obstacles and protect the devotee. The opening lines emphasize Murugan as the one who bestows blessings from the sacred hill of Thiruthani and guides the mind like a peacock leading the way
