Day 6 of Navaratri:
Goddess Katyayani, the Warrior Form of Durga
The sixth day of Navaratri honors Goddess Katyayani, the sixth form of Navadurga. She is a powerful form of Goddess Durga, associated with courage, justice, and destroying evil.
Goddess Katyayani appeared to defeat the demon Mahishasura and restore balance to the world.
Who is Goddess Katyayani?
Goddess Katyayani is a fierce and powerful form of the Divine Mother. According to traditional accounts, she was born from the combined divine energy of the gods to destroy Mahishasura, who had become a threat to the heavens and the world.
She is named Katyayani because of her association with Sage Katyayana. According to one traditional account, the sage performed penance and prayed for the Goddess to be born in his family. The Goddess appeared as his daughter and came to be known as Katyayani.
Her story represents the victory of divine power over arrogance and injustice.
How is Goddess Skandamata depicted?
Goddess Skandamata is commonly depicted seated on a lion, symbolizing courage and power.
She is usually shown with four arms. Two hands hold lotuses, while one hand supports or carries the child Skanda, who sits on her lap. Her remaining hand is often shown in a gesture of blessing.
In some depictions, Skanda holds a small spear, reflecting his identity as a warrior deity.
The lotus associated with Skandamata represents purity and spiritual beauty. Her peaceful expression reflects compassion, while the lion represents strength and fearlessness.

Why Is Goddess Skandamata Worshipped on Day 5 of Navaratri?
Each day of Navaratri honors one of the nine forms of Navadurga. Skandamata occupies the fifth position in this traditional sequence and is therefore worshipped on the fifth day.
Devotees pray to her for their families' well-being, protection, peace, and spiritual growth. As the mother of Lord Skanda, she represents the mother's loving, protective power.
Her worship reminds devotees that compassion and strength can exist together.
May Goddess Skandamata bless us with Love and protection.
Om Sri Matre Namah.
